A long time ago I said to one of my colleagues at work, “If I go party with you guys and I don’t drink wine it is because it tastes awful, and not because of religion”. The first time that I tried wine was when my undergrad university hosted a night called “Noche de Tango” where there was wine tasting and tango dancing. No one taught us how to experience and drink wine. Instead, I grabbed my first cup thinking that this is just another drink like water or Coca-Cola. I took my first sip. I can tell you that it was the worst thing I have ever tasted. Therefore, my first impression about wine was, I can drink it, but is not something that I usually would choose to do.
After being in Urbino, Italy, my perception of wine has dramatically changed. The night of the wine tasting experience I learned that, “Wine is not like any drink, it is like food, you have to chew it,” When the Italiana Sommelier offered our group instruction on wine and food, I realized that “Oh this explains so much”. I can definitely say that my perception of wine has dramatically changed from this experience. In fact, I know now that I will buy some wine in the U.S.

Turning point moments are great aren’t they? In situations like these, our perceptions do a 180 and we think exactly opposite of what we thought before. It would be interesting to compose a list of all the 180’s that have stemmed from your experiences in Urbino!
