Visions of Cheeseburgers Dance In My Head

Scott and I were sitting in the cafeteria and had a delicious conversation.

“I’d kill for a cheeseburger right now,” Scott said.

“Oh, me toooo! I want fast food so badly!” I replied hungrily, “I really want Sonic!”

The mere mention of Sonic sent us into an obsessive discussion about all of the things that we would do to get a Sonic to Urbino. They have McDonald’s in Italy. Why not a Sonic? I don’t even care that it is America’s Drive-In! It would really make Italy the best experience that I have ever had! Scott and I both decided that Italy would taste even more delicious if Sonic could be added into the mix of Italian “delicacies”.

The food I have tried so far has been good, but not what I usually eat. I am a very, very picky eater. I like plain pasta with Nana’s sauce and nothing with vegetables. At home (in America and in my house in particular) I stick to the basic food groups; for me, that is pasta with cream or tomato sauce, steak, and Maryland blue crabs. I have never really branched out when it comes to food.  With much pleading and persuasion I may try the occasional new dish, but that very rarely happens. I am hoping that living in Italy for a month will help change my perspective on what is “good”.

This is my first trip abroad ever and my taste buds better shape up quickly. I want to enjoy the food, the view, and everything in between.  If I keep a narrow mind I am never going to get the full experience out of my trip. Although, I do believe that I will be getting over this particular discomfort quickly if I want to eat. You know what they say, “When in Rome, I mean, Urbino…”

Oh, don’t I know what you mean. I tend to eat salad with NO dressing– a rarity here in Ubrino, or at least in the cafeteria. Don’t get me wrong, I love olive oil, but . . . . But I love how you ended with the goal of gaining the FULL experience here and food is definitely a part of that.
