The day I set foot in Urbino, the first thing I thought to myself is, wow, how can a place like this really exist? I was fascinated by how much beauty can fit into one small city. From the beautiful green hill tops to the small streets and amazing architecture, Urbino caught my eye and made me realize how extraordinary one place could really be. It amazed me that most people have never even heard of Urbino. Most have heard only of Rome, Florence and Venice in Italy, but they don’t know how much beauty can come into one small city without the huge architecture, such as the Coliseum or the Sistine chapel. Nothing that I’ve ever seen in the United States was this amazing. Overall, I’m fascinated by the different types of graffiti on the walls with all their various meanings. I also noticed how the Italian students of Urbino celebrate graduations with the little wreathes on their heads which appear right after they graduate. They dance in the squares and wear masques and invite foreign visitors to dance with them. I’ve come to appreciate these patterns of life, so different from my own. An additional difference I’ve noticed is that each restaurant has and different specialties. Another thing I observed was how a lot of families work together – in stores, restaurants, or coffee shops. In Urbino the streets are smaller and narrower, the cars are smaller, even the people seem smaller in stature. Therefore, the town of Urbino has a different way of living than my own city, La Crescenta, in the United States. If you take a deep breath in La Crescenta you breathe in smog. When you do the same thing in Urbino you’re taking a breath of fresh air. The natives of Urbino all seem to know how to work together and appreciate a lot of things that I normally wouldn’t appreciate at home. I think Urbino helped open up my eyes and helps me realize what else is out there in the world and not just what’s in front of me.

Sounds like you’ve made numerous valuable observations in the short time you’ve been here are working to integrate those observations into a changed wordview.
